Climate Activist Programme in Ghana

Young people across Africa are emerging as powerful drivers of climate innovation, advocacy, and community mobilisation, yet many still face barriers such as limited access to technical knowledge, mentorship, financial literacy, institutional support, and practical pathways to scale their impact. The Climate Activist Programme (CAP) was launched in 2024 to close these gaps, and its current edition, CAP 3.0: Skills to Scale for Resilience, builds on the lessons of CAP24 and CAP25 with a multidisciplinary, experiential approach spanning climate science, policy, leadership, project management, climate finance, entrepreneurship, storytelling, and creative advocacy.

Championing inclusive climate action in Addis Ababa: Lessons from Ethiopia’s gender and climate change community of practice Over the past fifty years, Ethiopia has experienced increasing climate impacts, such as food insecurity risks, pressures on natural resources, and threats to livelihoods, underscoring the need for robust adaptation and resilience strategies. However, gender integration is still very fragmented. Recognising this gap, national stakeholders identified the need for coordinated capacity strengthening efforts and a shared platform to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in climate action. Stewarding nature through culture: Lessons from Indigenous knowledge systems for biodiversity protection in Benin Forests and biodiversity-rich landscapes in Benin are not only ecological assets; they are entangled with cultural realities, belief systems, and knowledge traditions. Yet, the value of these knowledge systems is not always captured in conventional approaches to natural resource governance. The “Revitalising Biodiversity by Drawing on Traditional African Knowledge in Central Benin” project, implemented by SURVIE NGO in Central Benin, under the CDKN Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) programme, sought to change this narrative.

Locally led adaptation: Priority area

The risks faced by people and ecosystems in a changing climate vary from one locality to another. It’s partly a question of physical geography and partly a question of the human factors – social, economic, cultural – that make people resilient or vulnerable to climate hazards. That is why adaptation should be locally led. Adaptation is most effective when it is centred on people’s human rights and driven by the knowledge and needs that local people, especially the most marginalised groups, bring to the table.

Reflecting as we go: Lessons from CDKN’s open call for locally-led adaptation initiatives in Africa CDKN is providing Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) grants in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Lanzamiento del Proyecto de Conservación del Bofedal Yanasenega para la Seguridad Hídrica de Lima por AQUAFONDO y FFLA-CDKN El 16 de mayo, en San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí, más de treinta líderes locales, agricultores y autoridades se reunieron para dar inicio al proyecto "Protección y conservación del bofedal Yanasenega". El taller permitió identificar amenazas climáticas y planificar actividades de protección del bofedal, mejora del pastoreo e inclusión de mujeres y jóvenes en prácticas tradicionales.
