Implementing the Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting & Learning (MERL) tool in Kenya

This project supports the Government of Kenya to develop a participatory Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL) tool to improve the tracking of climate investments, outcomes, and impacts. It addresses gaps in existing monitoring systems that limit the measurement of climate action effectiveness, climate finance mobilisation, project sustainability, and reporting. Led by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry (MECCF) with support from CDKN Kenya and pilot counties, the tool is being co-created to strengthen evidence-based climate planning and accountability.

Technology, tradition and co-existence: How one CDKN partner is working with local communities to monitor and manage their environment CDKN has been working with Nature and People as One (NaPO), a CDKN knowledge-to-action grantee, since 2024, to support their work on ecosystem restoration and governance by Indigenous pastoralist communities in Mt. Marsabit, a semi-arid region of northern Kenya. This photo story documents NaPO’s Herder Conservation Network initiative, which equips local pastoralist herders with the technical skills and technology to monitor and steward community lands outside formal protected areas.

From knowledge to climate-resilient action - five African organisations selected for CDKN grants As part of its commitment to turning climate knowledge into climate-resilient action, CDKN is providing Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) grants in Africa. After putting out an open call for locally-led adaptation initiatives last year, five K2A projects were chosen from an extremely competitive pool of over 1000 applicants. The selected K2A projects are Survie de la Mère et de l’Enfant (Survie) in Benin, Grand Slam National in Cameroon, Nature and People as One (NaPO) in Kenya, Micaia Foundation in Mozambique and Youth Empowerment and Development Aid (YEDA) in South Sudan.
