Project : Climate change and upstream development impacts on new hydropower projects in the Zambezi

The Southern African Power Pool’s (SAPP) has planned an integrated expansion which includes more than 6,300 MW of new large scale hydropower with at least another 6,500MW under discussion within the Zambezi River Basin. CDKN is supporting research that examines the interaction between climate change, irrigation and hydropower in the Basin.

MAPS-Chile embraces planning for low emissions development The Government of Chile has embarked on a two-year ‘Mitigation Action Plans and Scenarios’ (MAPS) project, with CDKN’s support. The project aims to generate options for Chile to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions through a process of research and multi-sectoral involvement.

The climate and gender game Janot Mendler de Suarez is a Visiting Research Fellow with the Games for a New Climate task force at the Boston University Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, USA. Janot is collaborating with the Red Cross / Red Crescent Climate Centre, which received CDKN support to develop 'serious games' to raise awareness of climate adaptation strategies. Here, Janot introduces a special ‘climate and gender game’ that builds on this work.

Helping African editors tune in to climate change In the second piece of our two-part blog, Mike Davison of WRENmedia highlights how East African journalists are striving to improve reporting on climate change. These ideas were shared by journalists at an 8-day media-training workshop for climate-change reporting held in Nairobi in April 2012, organised by CDKN and conducted by WRENmedia.
