Four ecosystem-based adaptation projects with a social and gender perspective begin in Latin America Four CDKN-supported Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) projects began activities recently, two in Colombia and two in Ecuador. These K2A projects are part of a small grants programme (US$ 50,000 per project) that aim to sustainably protect natural resources in these countries while considering the effects of climate change and promoting ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) and gender and social inclusion.

Strengthening connections between biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation in science-policy processes CDKN’s Nadia Sitas and Fatema Rajabali reflect on a recent Africa-focused training provided to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) national focal points. This learning continues to inform how CDKN will support and strengthen biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation to build resilience, protect life and foster sustainable land management which are priorities for countries and global frameworks alike.

Ethiopia's community of practice for gender equity and social inclusion in climate change actions Arsema Andargatchew and Robi Redda from CDKN reflect on the second meeting of Ethiopia's national community of practice for Gender Equity and Social Inclusion in Climate Change actions. The community’s ambitious yet realistic plans include gender-responsive policy analysis and fund mobilisation strategies, all guided by five key pillars of action.

Climate justice awards: Youth leaders announced CDKN, the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) and the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL) have announced the 30 sponsored participants to attend the Landscape Leadership Workshop and Global Landscapes Forum from 9-12 October 2023. Of these participants, 11 are recipients of CDKN's climate justice awards, supporting young climate leaders in Africa to implement an activity or process in their communities, landscapes or seascapes that envisions or advances climate justice.

CDKN at Africa Climate Week 2023 Africa Climate Week (ACW) and the Africa Climate Summit (ACS), both hosted by the Government of Kenya, will run concurrently from 4-8 September in Nairobi. The first of four Regional Climate Weeks, ACW aims to build momentum ahead of COP28 and the conclusion of the first global stocktake, designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement's key goals. Solar Radiation Modification: Why young people must have a say Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) technology is rapidly advancing and seriously being considered as a method to artificially cool the planet. However, it raises significant ethical, environmental, political and social issues and will have far reaching consequences for the world if it is deployed. Since it will impact the lives of future generations, it's imperative that young people have a say in whether it's developed and how it may impact the most climate-affected countries and communities.

Through interviews with researchers and practitioners, this video aims to answer that question and propose solutions to getting local action reflected in global assessments of adaptation progress.

Adaptation Futures 2023 The call for session proposals, abstracts and posters is now open for Adaptation Futures 2023, to be held in Montreal and virtually in October 2023. AF2023 also seeks to establish one or two regional hubs during the conference as a complement and alternative to attending the conference in person in Montreal.
