Project : Forecast-based humanitarian decisions: designing tools and processes to link knowledge with action

This project embeds science into humanitarian work, designing participatory games and other innovative tools for smart forecast-based decisions. The goal is to manage climate risks and promote effective responses for development and adaptation in Africa across various sectors, time scales, and spatial scales of decision.

Powering Southern Africa - the future of hydro in the Zambezi River Basin CDKN is supporting a study on the impact of climate change and upstream irrigation development on hydropower in the Zambezi River Basin. Most of the northern SADC countries already rely primarily on hydropower, and this will increase in the future. However, many of these countries are also periodically under water stress during drought, while the water demand continues to grow, largely due to major irrigation investments.

Project : Agriculture in climate change negotiations

CDKN is working with the Meridian Institute to support dialogue on the nexus between agriculture and climate change in the context of UNFCCC negotiations. The project aims to facilitate discussion among developing country leaders on agriculture-climate links through a 12 month dialogue process.

As part of the part of the Humanitarian Futures Programme, this project brings together partners from developing and developed countries to strengthen dialogue between scientists and policy-makers and explore how climate science can more effectively support humanitarian, disaster risk reduction and development planning.
