Postcard from Addis Ababa - 'Development first Lisa McNamara reports from the first Climate Change and Development in Africa conference held in Addis Ababa last week. Hosted by UNECA's African Climate Policy Centre, the strong 'development first' message of the conference set the stage for 'Africa's CoP' in Durban. Participants called for solutions to climate change and development challenges shaped by Africans, and informed by Africa’s priorities.

Climate compatible agriculture – a smart approach to poverty reduction in Africa CDKN Chief Executive Sam Bickersteth writes about the importance of achieving a triple win - of emissions reductions, increased resilience, and productivity gain - for African agriculture. Though the UNFCCC process can help climate compatible agriculture, efforts to build supportive policy frameworks must continue outside of the CoPs.

Support announced for Least Developed Country voices in global climate talks 6 September, 2011 - Today UK Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell MP announces the launch of a UK government initiative to support Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to have a better say in international climate talks. The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) will manage this negotiations support fund: the climate window of the Advocacy Fund.

Project : Integrating climate change into Zimbabwe's economic planning

CDKN supported the drafting of the climate change section for the Government of Zimbabwe's Medium Term Plan (2011 - 2015). The section establishes the need to have a national climate change policy and integrate climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in economic and social development policies and programmes.
