This project supports the Government of Kenya to develop a participatory Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning (MERL) tool to improve the tracking of climate investments, outcomes, and impacts. It addresses gaps in existing monitoring systems that limit the measurement of climate action effectiveness, climate finance mobilisation, project sustainability, and reporting. Led by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry (MECCF) with support from CDKN Kenya and pilot counties, the tool is being co-created to strengthen evidence-based climate planning and accountability.

The risks faced by people and ecosystems in a changing climate vary from one locality to another. It’s partly a question of physical geography and partly a question of the human factors – social, economic, cultural – that make people resilient or vulnerable to climate hazards. That is why adaptation should be locally led. Adaptation is most effective when it is centred on people’s human rights and driven by the knowledge and needs that local people, especially the most marginalised groups, bring to the table.

CDKN’s Finance for Resilience priority area promotes flexible, inclusive and locally led financing systems that enable communities, institutions, and ecosystems to prepare for, adapt to, and transform in the face of climate risks.  

The GESI priority area focuses on empowering those most affected by climate change, including women, girls, youth, Indigenous communities, people living with disabilities (PLWD), and other disadvantaged groups.

This project strengthens Ghana’s climate adaptation policies by engaging diverse stakeholders, including youth and regional leaders, to ensure inclusive and sustainable action.

The Senegal country programme works to strengthen the resilience of local communities by integrating gender equality and social inclusion into policies and practices and enhancing and amplifying local knowledge.
