Project : ESMAP: Africa Clean Cooking Energy Solutions

The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) estimates that by 2030 one billion people in sub-Saharan Africa will depend on biomass as their main energy source. Currently over 80% of people in sub-Saharann Africa depend on solid fuels such as charcoal and firewood– more than any other region in the world. CDKN is supporting the African Clean Cooking Initiative (ACCI), which is designed to support a market-driven approach to increase the use of clean cook stoves in Africa through addressing key market barriers.

Project : Modelling the implications of socio-economic development of mitigation actions by developing countries

In considering mitigation actions, policy makers not only need to consider the costs and benefits of embarking on a low carbon development path, they also need to consider the socio-economic implications of any action. CDKN is supporting a research project which will develop cutting edge methodologies to link sectoral and economy wide models in order to address issues critical to the development of climate-compatible policy.
