The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC will take place from 6-18 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt. CDKN will be launching a new phase and participating at the events below. You can also find us at a physical exhibition stand and the Resilience Hub (virtual and in-person). Find out more below.

New CDKN phase launches at COP27

At COP27, CDKN will announce a new five-year phase (2022-27) that aims to advance gender-equitable and socially-inclusive climate-resilient development by mobilising knowledge-into-action, capacity and Southern climate leadership from local to global levels.

The next chapter in CDKN’s journey is being implemented through Step Change – a CAD $28 million Canada-Netherlands partnership to drive equitable and inclusive locally-led adaptation.

Driving gender equality through climate action

Date: Monday 14 November
Location: Canada Pavilion, Blue Zone and livestreamed
Time:
09:00-10:00 Egypt time (GMT +2)
Hosts: International Development Research Centre

This session will announce ‘Step Change’ and CDKN's next phase. It will focus on forward-looking insights on meaningfully integrating gender equality and women’s empowerment into climate adaptation and mitigation interventions in the Global South, drawing on lessons and experiences of IDRC-supported Southern practitioners and researchers. The event will emphasise themes such as gender-inclusive research, locally-led climate action, and mobilising Southern knowledge for climate policy. CDKN will also share a new policy brief on women’s economic empowerment in low carbon plans and actions.

COP27 Africa Regional Resilience Hub

CDKN, hosted by SouthSouthNorth (SSN), is leading the COP27 Africa Regional Resilience Hub and will be bringing key messages to COP27 from a series of in-person and virtual engagements on regional priority topics from August to September 2022. The Regional Resilience Hubs illuminate regional priorities, actions, solutions and challenges on resilience, aiming to ensure the voices and perspectives of traditionally under-represented communities are heard and amplified to a global audience.

The Resilience Hub is an inclusively built virtual and physical space that aims to mobilise greater levels of ambition and action on building resilience to climate change. It serves as the home to the Race to Resilience campaign at COP, representing over 1,500 non-state actors taking action on resilience around the world.

Reaching resilience: African solutions for the African continent

Date: Tuesday 15 November
Location: Resilience Hub, Blue Zone and livestreamed
Time:
09:00-10:00 Egypt time (GMT +2)
Hosts: CDKN and SSN

This session will share the key messages on resilience strengthening that arose from the Africa Regional Resilience Hub that took place in the lead up to COP27. We will hear from resilience experts from the continent on how the climate resilience agenda should be learning from, collaborating with and supporting Africans for improved and increased resilience in Africa. This is particularly necessary given the additional burden of climate change impacts on a continent already facing the repercussions of long-standing structural injustice.

Locally-led adaptation: bringing the local agenda forward

Location: Benelux Pavilion and livestreamed
Time: 09:30-11:00 Egypt time (GMT +2)
Hosts: Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA), CDKN and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands

Recognising the importance of local actors and their extensive local, intergenerational, indigenous, traditional and cultural knowledge, over 80 organisations (including the Dutch government) endorsed the Principles of Locally Led Adaptation (LLA) at COP26 in 2021. This session aims to bring the local agenda forward by providing a space for those directly involved in LLA to share their experiences. It will therefore draw on lessons learned, address key barriers and identify opportunities to move this critical agenda forward.
