Recent climatological studies by scholars from different disciplines and different parts of the world have proven that the surface temperature of urban areas is generally higher than those of neighbouring vegetated areas. For the last five years, the Kesbewa Urban Council (KUC) area has shown an increasing trend in air temperature, related to increasing urbanisation and population growth and conversion of agricultural lands to urban activities.

This paper, Surface Temperature Variations in the Kesbewa Urban Council area, Sri Lanka, looks at the spatial pattern of surface temperature in the KUC area, and the demographic factors and surface temperature in the Kesbewa Urban Council area of Sri Lanka.
