Inside story: Assessing carbon and water footprints in Andean cities The capital cities of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru are vulnerable to climate change, partly due to their dependence on water from retreating Andean glaciers. This comparative Inside Story by Miguel Rodríguez Tejerina of Servicios Ambientales highlights the challenges, enabling factors, lessons learned and implications for climate compatible development - as illustrated by a project to assess the cities’ carbon and water footprints.

Project : Mobilising efforts to reduce deforestation for water, energy and food security in Indonesia

This project examines how Indonesia can transition away from its current 'business as usual' development model and achieve its water, energy and food security goals without further deforestation. In doing so, it identifies opportunities and challenges for the necessary coordinated development strategies that recognise and account for the true value of natural resources, their ecosystem services, and the inherent resource trade-offs between sectors.

Carbon and water footprint assessments in three Andean cities : Phase 2

This project is now in its second phase of promoting low-carbon footprint and climate-resilient development in cities, CDKN is working with the municipalities of Quito (Ecuador), La Paz (Bolivia) and Lima (Peru).
