Peru’s high rate of economic growth has led to a substantial increase in total energy consumption, which is expected to continue to rise in the future. In the short term, this could lead to potential deficits in electricity supply as generation capacity struggles to keep pace with demand. This poses a danger to economic growth and business competitiveness if shortages lead to operational disruptions or additional costs to guarantee energy supply.
Geothermal developers, particularly in the early stages of developing a field, face high costs for field development coupled with high risks associated with resource exploration and development / appraisal drilling. The cost of early phase development in the Kenya and Ethiopia typically ranges from around 50 to 100 million USD for a medium size development (130 MW).
This project is designed to demonstrate the viability of building a renewable energy mini-grid system from the bottom up.
