Elvin Nyukuri, a Research Fellow at the African Centre for Technology Studies, speaks to CDKN at COP16 about community-based adaptation projects in Kenya. She emphasises the need for communities to own and steer projects and move from short-term coping strategies to proactive adaptation. Drawing lessons from past responses to climatic events, such as floods, has proven to be a valuable way to introduce adaptation to communities and build on existing coping mechanisms.
