Sharing learning on NDC implementation - Lessons from Kampala Last year, CDKN hosted a two-day South-South learning exchange in Kampala, Uganda on the theme of NDC implementation. The event convened government representatives and project managers from Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Bangladesh - all countries that had been piloting the NDC Quick-Start Guide to NDC Implementation, with assistance from Ricardo Energy and Environment. Claire Monkhouse and Emma Baker reflect on the themes.

The 2016/2017 drought in Kenya This policy brief concludes that, from the climate science perspective, results show the 2016-17 drought in Kenya is less severe than the 2010-11 drought in Lamu, while in Marsabit they are comparable. It provides recommendations for decision-makers to link disaster risk management strategies with climate science.

Science summary: The drought in Kenya, 2016–2017 Kenya is currently suffering from a drought, which has triggered a national emergency as of April 2017. Scientists with the World Weather Attribution (WWA) partnership have conducted a real-time attribution analysis to see whether and to what extent human-induced climate change has played a role in the 2016-2017 drought in Kenya.

The changing risk of extreme weather: Insights from Raising Risk Awareness Raising Risk Awareness held a three-day learning event, hosted in Nairobi, to bring together 65 members of the Raising Risk Awareness team from across the globe. A series of short films were produced on the takeaway messages of the learning event and the importance of climate science attribution.
