COP18 - Join CDKN side events in Doha
COP18 - Join CDKN side events in Doha
Please join us in person, or follow our events on our website and Twitter as CoP18 unfolds. CDKN will be supporting and participating in several events – we’d love to see you there, or at our display stand in the official exhibition area, number 178.
In Doha, we will be:
1. Injecting energy into the climate negotiations – with fresh ideas for building consensus
CDKN and Oneworld have just released a film ‘Can international consensus on climate change save the planet?’ that contains game-changing proposals on how to forge stronger international agreement on climate change and stimulate widespread action. You can also read our Policy Brief - How to build consensus in climate change negotiations.
CDKN’s consensus-building event in Doha will convene CoP delegates to debate these ideas further. We'll be using this opportunity to launch our Negotiations Support Innovation Challenge.
2. Launching our new Climate Finance Advisory Service
The Advisory Service will allow negotiators, policy makers and advisors in developing countries to access the bespoke information and guidance they need to participate effectively in complex global climate finance negotiations. Launched at CDKN's side event on 29 November, this facility is now open: visit www.cdkn.org/cfas for more information.
3. Sharing our experience and stimulating innovation on climate compatible development
CDKN hosted an official side event Climate compatible development from theory to practice: What works and why? on Thursday 29 November at the Qatar National Convention Centre, Doha where we shared the successes and challenges of our country programmes. We tackled the following queries:
• How is CCD being applied in practice?
• Over and above the usual development challenges, what are the specific challenges and uncertainties that arise from seeking to apply CCD in practice?
• Can the triple-win CCD “sweet spot” (strategies which result in lower emissions, enhanced resilience and development) be achieved or is it in fact a balancing act?
CDKN is partnering with IIED and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre to hold Development and Climate Days: innovative approaches, incisive dialogue for climate-smart development. This two day event, on 1-2 December, will go beyond conventional panel discussions and involve full audience participation. It takes place alongside a complementary event at the Ezdan Hotel, Doha hosted by the Global Environment Facility. If you enjoy ‘serious fun games’ on climate compatible development, do join us.
4. Highlighting women’s roles in coping with climate change and creating solutions
CDKN welcomes you to a networking event at the Ezdan Hotel, Doha from 18:30-20:30 (GMT+3) on 2 December. Our theme is Gender at the centre of climate compatible development – read more about CDKN’s gender work here.
5. Advocating ways to tackle loss and damage from climate change
CDKN has been supporting the Government of Bangladesh to develop a programme to address loss and damage from climate change, which could be a model for other Least Developed Countries. With our partners United Nations University, Germanwatch, MCII and International Centre for Climate Change and Development, we held an official side event on 26 November in Doha and launched a range of briefing guides and case studies.
On Thursday 22 November, Alertnet and CDKN convened a twitter debate with experts entitled Paying the price: Who will pay the costs of losses and damage from climate impacts? Visit the Alertnet website to read about expert debate with Tom Mitchell and Kashmala Kakakhel of CDKN, Koko Warner of United Nations University and Sven Harmeling of Germanwatch.
