INSIDE STORY: Seizing the sunshine - Barbados' thriving solar water heater industry
Barbados has saved millions of dollars in imported fossil fuel costs and millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide every year, thanks to its embrace of solar water heating technology. This CDKN ‘Inside story on climate compatible development’ explores how it has happened.
This project aims to provide monetary support to the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) in order to continue and scale up its advocacy role to support LDC countries to include the protection of rainforest and coastal marine ecosystems within the UNFCCC and other international forum.
In considering mitigation actions, policy makers not only need to consider the costs and benefits of embarking on a low carbon development path, they also need to consider the socio-economic implications of any action. CDKN is supporting a research project which will develop cutting edge methodologies to link sectoral and economy wide models in order to address issues critical to the development of climate-compatible policy.
Getting to grips with the complexities of climate change
In the first piece of our two-part blog, Mike Davison of WRENmedia highlights the challenges East African journalists face when reporting on climate change. These ideas were shared by journalists at an eight-day media-training workshop for climate-change reporting held in Nairobi in April 2012, organised by CDKN and conducted by WRENmedia.
There is now more opportunity than ever to rapidly advance sustainable energy in Central America. , the Worldwatch Institute (WI) will establish a participatory dialogue on renewable energy in seven countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) region (Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama).
CDKN provided technical support to the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) at the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP-17). Accounting for suppressed demand means that development projects, including those that provide or extend basic services to the poor, can claim more carbon credits and generate greater carbon finance revenue.
