Tools for monitoring national climate finance
Wednesday 1st February 2017
Time: 14:00 – 15:30 GMT
Location: GoToWebinar
Join the LEDS GP Finance Working Group for an upcoming webinar on monitoring in national climate finance. The webinar will describe the opportunities and costs associated with the development of monitoring approaches for national climate change public finance.
Tracking climate finance in a consistent and comprehensive way is key towards understanding the resources spent in achieving the goals set out by a country’s nationally determined contribution (NDC). Furthermore, strong monitoring and tracking systems help to attract more climate finance.
In this webinar Neil Bird, Senior Research Fellow at the Overseas Development Institute and specialist in environmental policy and international funding mechanisms, will highlight five tools that can support climate change financial monitoring and give key enabling conditions for identifying their effective application. The webinar will look at the following tools:
- Climate aid reporting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD);
- Multilateral development bank reporting;
- UNFCCC reporting;
- National climate finance studies; and
- National budget tracking.
Emphasis will be given to the prioritisation, sequencing, and frequency of monitoring efforts so as to have the greatest influence over the overall effectiveness of monitoring climate change public finance. The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session.
