The Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), held from 31 January to 2 February in New Delhi, was an opportunity to highlight CDKN learning and action across the world on climate compatible development. In his address to the Summit, CDKN Asia Director Ali Tauqeer Sheikh detailed the main challenges in relation to climate change, including absence of carbon budgets, lack of knowledge about the physical impact of climate change and its economic costs, and the need for climate compatible development. At the end of his talk, he stressed that the root cause of vulnerability is economic policy that is not inclusive, and hence called for the whole development paradigm to be revisited to ensure that marginalized groups are included.

The CDKN Asia Director also gave an interview to CNN-IBN on the sidelines of the DSDS. In it he explained the already very obvious impact of climate change on Pakistan. In the context of Indo-Pak relations, he stressed that climate change doesn’t respect national boundaries: issues like food security, population displacement and ecosystem degradation are transnational problems. He called for collective action, and for a shared Indo-Pak vision and position on climate issues.
