CDKN's programme at COP20, Lima
CDKN's programme at COP20, Lima
At COP20 in Lima, the CDKN delegation's activities will be focused on the following areas:
Reaching zero poverty, zero emissions, within a generation
2015 is a crucial year in which an international agreement on climate change, the post-2015 development goals and a future framework on Disaster Risk Reduction are all set to be finalised. This is a major opportunity to integrate climate change and poverty reduction in the Sustainable Development Goals and to integrate climate-related risk reduction commitments in the international disasters framework (HFA2). The UNFCCC process could drive national emissions reductions and the provision of resources for climate-resilient, low-emissions development in the poorest and most climate vulnerable countries. CDKN is co-sponsoring Development and Climate Days 2014: Zero Poverty. Zero Emissions. Within a Generation. The event will propose actions for making the most of this major opportunity.
Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs)
CDKN is working with the governments of Peru, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Gambia, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic to prepare INDCs. These countries are pursuing a range of approaches. Lessons are already emerging from their experience. In Lima, CDKN will be sponsoring South-South and South-North exchange on INDC preparation, encouraging government officials, donors and civil society leaders to share their insights.
Sharing knowledge on climate compatible development
Sharing knowledge in a timely way will be critical to reach zero poverty and zero emissions in a generation. In Lima, CDKN and other founding members of the Climate Knowledge Brokers (CKB) Group will convene Latin American organisations to spark new collaborations on knowledge exchange. The CKB Group will report on new ways that their members are already joining forces - to help end users can find the information they need more easily. CDKN’s guides to the latest climate science from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for Asia, Africa, Latin America and Small Island Developing States put the key scientific facts at negotiators’ fingertips.
In Lima, CDKN and the Adaptation Fund will launch the Knowledge Exchange for Climate Finance Readiness, which presents information and analysis for least developed and climate-vulnerable countries.
Join the Climate Knowledge Brokers Group at COP20 for their side event, Innovation and Collaboration for Transforming Knowledge into Climate Action, which will be showcasing recent breakthroughs that have been made in laying the foundations for a smart knowledge grid.
Negotiations support
CDKN’s Negotiations Support team will be on hand to speak with climate negotiators from the least developed and most climate-vulnerable countries about achieving their priority outcomes for COP20 – and to pave the road to COP21 in Paris next year. CDKN is also showcasing the domestic leadership of the COP20 host, the Government of Peru. The Government has led a national process for climate mitigation and poverty reduction planning called PlanCC, -- supported by CDKN and others. PlanCC will be discussed and analysed extensively in CDKN’s publications and events.
