Advancing the Paris Agreement from local to national level - UNFCCC official side event
CDKN and ICLEI invite you to join us at our official side event, “Advancing the Paris Agreement at all levels: Lessons from local, regional and national governments”, at the UN Climate Change Conference.
When: Monday 8th May 2017, 3.00-4.30pm local time (Germany, Central Europe Summertime)
Where: World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB), Platz der Vereinten Nationen 2, 53113 Bonn, Germany (Berlin Room, 112)
The delivery of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) relies on effective planning at the national level with full engagement of local and regional governments. As the UN Climate Change Conference gets underway we look forward to sharing insights from CDKN and ICLEI and hearing from developing and developed countries, at these different levels of governance.
We will hear from speakers from the governments of Zambia and Kenya about their early experiences of implementing their NDC, and how the CDKN NDC Quick Start Guide is supporting this; and from the City of Bonn.
We welcome all delegates to the UNFCCC meetings to attend this lively presentation, followed by question and answer session.

About the CDKN Quick Start Guide to NDC Implementation
The purpose of CDKN’s Quick-Start Guide to NDC Implementation is to support developing countries in implementing their NDCs. It is accompanied by a reference manual which provides more detail on the activities that countries can include in their implementation plans. They are aimed at policy-makers at national and subnational levels, and development partners and practitioners supporting the implementation of NDCs.
This guidance was initiated at the request of several developing countries who are keen to move ahead with implementation and expressed a need for early practical guidance on how to prepare effective NDC implementation plans and take action in what is a fast-evolving space. Many elements are also applicable to developed countries looking to implement their NDCs.
Each country is at a different stage of climate change policy development and implementation. The guide therefore addresses the diversity in NDCs and the starting points for their implementation. It also takes into account the fact that the requirements under the Paris Agreement do not apply equally to Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Visit the English version of the Guide in digibook format on: http://www.cdkn.org/ndc-guide and download the French version of the Guide and Reference Manual via this link.
