Enhancing resilience in Ethiopia’s Simien Mountains through community-led ecosystem-based adaptation This case study explores the RELIVES project, implemented by ORDA Ethiopia and CARE Ethiopia, and how it supported community resilience through locally led adaptation approaches. It highlights EbA efforts to strengthen climate resilience, improve natural resource management and support sustainable livelihood opportunities through community participation, partnership and locally driven action.

Acting locally for global impact: Advancing biodiversity and climate action through rights, knowledge and governance To commemorate International Day for Biological Diversity, Nadia Sitas, Hannah Sack and Cris Robertson reflect on an urgent reality: biodiversity loss and climate change are deeply interconnected crises that require equally interconnected solutions. The Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), however, provides a shared roadmap to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, with ambitious targets that recognise the central role of people, rights, and governance systems. At CDKN our work aligns closely with this agenda.

Forests at the centre of global action: Insights from practice as UNFF21 convenes As the 21st Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF21) convenes, global attention turns to the critical role forests play in delivering on interconnected goals for climate, biodiversity and sustainable development. Forests cover more than 30% of the Earth’s land surface, support the livelihoods of over a billion people, and are home to around 80% of terrestrial biodiversity, yet they continue to face significant and ongoing degradation.

Disability inclusion is strongest when intentional: Reflecting on the Climate Resilience for All webinar In April 2026, CDKN co‑hosted with the Norwegian Federation of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (FFO) a webinar on strengthening disability inclusion within GESI‑responsive climate action in Africa. With an array of speakers sharing insights from science, policy, and practice, the webinar emphasised the importance of integrating disability meaningfully into climate action frameworks across the continent.

Advancing gender equity and climate resilience through baobab fruit value chains Across rural Africa, baobab fruit has long contributed to livelihoods, particularly for women. This case study draws on more than a decade of work by the Micaia Foundation and its partnership with Baobab Products Mozambique and examines how the commercialisation of baobab fruit in northern Mozambique has strengthened livelihoods, enhanced women’s agency, and contributed to climate resilience.

Building resilience or building risk? Lessons from Sapatana Ashrayan in Bangladesh As part of the CDKN Knowledge Accelerator for Climate Compatible Development Programme, a team from our alliance partners, ICLEI South Asia, visited Ward 9 of Lalmonirhat Municipality in Bangladesh. The visit focused on assessing the Sapatana Ashrayan national housing project, examining how effectively it addresses climate vulnerability and livelihood challenges in this highly exposed region. The team sought to answer an important question: does providing housing alone ensure long-term resilience in a changing climate.

Championing inclusive climate action in Addis Ababa: Lessons from Ethiopia’s gender and climate change community of practice Over the past fifty years, Ethiopia has experienced increasing climate impacts, such as food insecurity risks, pressures on natural resources, and threats to livelihoods, underscoring the need for robust adaptation and resilience strategies. However, gender integration is still very fragmented. Recognising this gap, national stakeholders identified the need for coordinated capacity strengthening efforts and a shared platform to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in climate action. Stewarding nature through culture: Lessons from Indigenous knowledge systems for biodiversity protection in Benin Forests and biodiversity-rich landscapes in Benin are not only ecological assets; they are entangled with cultural realities, belief systems, and knowledge traditions. Yet, the value of these knowledge systems is not always captured in conventional approaches to natural resource governance. The “Revitalising Biodiversity by Drawing on Traditional African Knowledge in Central Benin” project, implemented by SURVIE NGO in Central Benin, under the CDKN Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) programme, sought to change this narrative.
