Evaluation of adaptation trials for coastal livelihoods in Bangladesh
Evaluation of adaptation trials for coastal livelihoods in Bangladesh
The Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM) and ICLEI South Asia, in partnership with CDKN, launched this project in Bangladesh in July 2019.
Context
The recently-adopted Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 is an adaptive delta management planning process that will support adaptation to climate change. Dynamic risk maps were prepared for the coastal districts of Bangladesh (through the ESPA Deltas and DECCMA projects), which are capable of quantifying the need for several adaptation options to minimise risk, therefore supporting the case for adaptation financing.
Project Objective
To field test the adaptation options evaluated in the DECCMA research project for the coastal region of Bangladesh and, based on the findings, produce a policy brief for the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100.
Project activities and outputs
- Formation of representative community level groups
- Training of communities along with demonstrations in collaboration with local NGOs, University Network Members and line agencies related to agriculture, fisheries/aquaculture, forestry, livestock etc.
- Several focus group discussions and social surveys will be conducted at each of the sites to capture the change of indicators related to socio-economic conditions before and after the trials
- Theoretical analysis/ Macro to Micro level adjustment
- Up scaling of the community level learning to inform policymakers/planners/financiers
Outputs from the project include:
- Training materials
- Field report and findings
- Final evaluation of adaptation options
- Policy brief on adaptation options and financing
- Journal article on adaptation options
- District level dissemination workshop
- National level workshop
