The Climate and Development Knowledge Network is closing
The Climate and Development Knowledge Network is closing
Yes, we're closing.
By March 2027, all CDKN staff will have completed their final day on the job. We'll shut the doors on a journey that has spanned more than 15 years.
CDKN was established in a different era of climate action. Before the Paris Agreement, when many countries were still establishing the policy frameworks, institutions and finance mechanisms needed to respond to climate change, we helped lay some of those foundations.
Over the past 15 years, as the climate agenda shifted from policy design to implementation, CDKN adapted too. We evolved into an alliance of non-profit organisations based entirely in the Global South, bringing CDKN closer to the communities, institutions and local actors driving climate resilience responses. We focused on connecting people, knowledge and resources to accelerate more equitable climate action across Africa, Asia and Latin America. While our work has shifted, our commitment to climate-resilient development that is inclusive and grounded in local realities has remained constant.
For all that has changed since we set out in 2010, many of the challenges that led to CDKN's creation remain. Climate impacts are accelerating. Adaptation needs continue to grow. Questions of justice, power and inclusion are becoming more urgent.
The reality, however, is that we operate in a landscape where resources are increasingly constrained and priorities continue to shift. Our long-standing funders, to whom we owe immense gratitude for making this journey possible, must invest in new priorities and organisations.
While CDKN may be closing, the need for this work does not. If you are a funder who shares our commitment to supporting Southern leadership, bridging knowledge and climate action, shifting power and resources to local communities, and advancing equitable, locally-led climate responses, we would welcome a conversation about how this work can continue beyond March 2027.
Our leadership team will be at COP31. To connect with us, please don't hesitate to get in touch with CDKN Programme Lead, Lisa McNamara: lisa@southsouthnorth.org
