The Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group is a negotiating bloc under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The 48 countries in the LDC Group are the most vulnerable to climate change because of their poverty, economic vulnerability and lack of relevant capacity to respond effectively to climate change impacts. It is therefore critical the interests of this group are represented in international climate negotiations and ultimately in the global climate agreement, as any decisions taken at this level will have significant consequences for least developed countries.

CDKN’s Negotiations Support seeks to strengthen the influence of the poorest and most vulnerable countries in international climate negotiations, to help them secure a fair and ambitious international climate agreement. This project is directly building the capacity of these countries to engage with and influence the international process.

We have supported the LDC group since mid-2011, via our suppliers IIED and Climate Analytics, who provide legal, technical and strategic advice to the LDC Group Chair and core team to help them prepare for, participate in and influence the negotiations. They also co-ordinating, planning and facilitating strategic meeting of the Group. Currently, the Group is led by Mr. Tosi Mpanu-Mpanu of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Support to the LDC Group has been continued under project references BEIS-0002 and BEIS-0003

Contract value for the period 01 July 2016 – 31 December 2016 was £55,410.

CDKN Funding: £210,000 (in 2016)
