Context 

Africa’s youth make up at least 70% of the continent’s entire population. This considerable youth demographic presents a significant opportunity for growth, provided that young people are engaged meaningfully and empowered to reach their potential to contribute to adaptation and mitigation efforts and building resilience. This regional action area in Africa seeks to address and understand the needs of African youth in the context of climate change is essential for strengthening their skills, knowledge and energy to tackle this global challenge. 

Project objectives  

  1. Understanding the priorities, actions, and constraints of young people, youth-serving, and youth-funding organisations working on climate change and development issues. The activities will equip identified actors and organisations with knowledge and innovation brokering capacities to inform equitable, inclusive, and innovative strategies and actions. 
  2. Assess and learn how CDKN regional projects engage young people in advancing local, national and regional climate resilience development. These learnings will also inform internal institutional learning.

Project activities 

  • Peer-to-peer learning between young people, youth-serving and youth-funding organisations, and CDKN projects
  • Co-designing learning across CDKN’s projects through case studies and learning stories. 
  • Capacity building of CDKN partners in designing effective inclusive strategies that support young people with an intergenerational lens.
