Proceedings of the International Planning Workshop on Conceptualising Effective and Efficient Adaptation Policies to Climate Change in Bangladesh | Bangladesh Development Research Centre
This is a report from the ‘Conceptualising Effective and Efficient Adaptation Policies to Climate Change in Bangladesh’, workshop which was held in May 2008. One important outcome of the workshop was a firm agreement that there is an urgent need for applying a more comprehensive and coherent approach to climate change research to better understand the cross-sectoral impacts and feedback loops. As a result, there was an agreement that the Millennium Institute’s Threshold 21 model should be applied to Bangladesh. After customisation, this model will provide a platform upon which current and future scientific knowledge about climate change and the broader development agenda can be integrated into a single multidisciplinary framework for policy design and decision making. Given the complex ways climate change will impact Bangladesh, the needed extensions will need to be designed by a combination of scientists, development economists, policy-makers, and civil society representatives.
