James Painter, Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, University of Oxford, discusses the results of a study into media coverage of climate change issues globally: Summoned by Science. He explores the implications of the report for media in Latin America, in particular. He says that contrary to Northern expectations, media in countries such as Brazil are covering climate change issues comparatively well.

James Painter urges media to go beyond 'doom and gloom' into more solutions-oriented and positive coverage that could might provide the incentive for behaviour change: 'you've got to think of a positive message that doesn't leave people despairing.'
