Approaches and capacities for knowledge brokering for climate resilience in the Global South

Tuesday 5th October at 16:30-18:00 IST | Jacaranda

Enhancing climate resilience requires effective knowledge brokering that enables individuals, institutions, communities and societies to convert knowledge into action. This session - co-hosted by CDKN, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and CSIRO in Australia - will share lessons on approaches that show promise, and on our emerging understanding of the capacities needed to support effective knowledge brokering in the global South. Join us for the next edition of the 'Knowledge Brokering Live' talk show to explore how climate practitioners working in Africa, Asia and the Pacific have adapted their knowledge brokering approaches in a Covid-19 world, and what this experience shows us for how we support knowledge brokering in the future. Finally, we consider what future programmes should prioritise to strengthen knowledge brokering capacities and processes.

Nature-based Solutions for adaptation of landscapes and cities to climate change

Wednesday 6th October at 13:00-14:30 IST | Jacaranda

This interactive session will contribute to an increased understanding of how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can help people, landscapes and cities to adapt to climate change through ecosystem-based services. It will discuss opportunities and limitations to using NbS for building resilient landscapes and cities. The session will present and discuss implementation of NbS for climate change adaptation and mitigation using real-world case-studies. Participants will be invited to envision pathways from NbS to transformational adaptation, potential trade-offs and strategies to overcome them.

The social lottery: Beating the odds to boost everyone’s climate resilience

Wednesday 6th October at 19:00-20:30 IST | Casuarina

Socially inclusive and gender responsive adaptation is much discussed on the international stage, although this coverage is patchy and by no means universal. This session, co-hosted by CDKN and the IDRC, will demonstrate how to play CDKN's innovative role play game, that enables participants to apply distinct social, economic and physical lenses (intersectional issues) on climate adaptation problems and unpack solutions in small group play and in broader discussion. The session will then explore broader reflections on how to advance gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in climate programmes and policies.

Wikipedia as a tool to accelerate adaptation knowledge: learn how to contribute

Thursday 7th October at 19:00-20:30 IST | Rosewood

Although not traditionally seen as an important platform for research dissemination, Wikipedia provides readily accessible information to millions in the broader public, including policymakers and other stakeholder groups. This session will explore why Wikipedia should not be overlooked by the adaptation community as a powerful tool for raising public awareness and understanding on climate change. Attendees will also learn practically how the platform works, and be guided through making their first edit.
