Announcement of forthcoming research call on resilient cities in Latin America

We are pleased to give you advance notice of the launch of the “Resilient Cities Initiative on Climate Change in Latin America”, which includes a new research call to open in the second week of May 2016. The closing date for submission of Expressions of Interest (EoIs) will be four weeks later. Applicants shortlisted on the basis of their EoI submission will be invited to submit full proposals.

This is a joint initiative of the Climate Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano (FFLA),

The “Resilient Cities Initiative on Climate Change in Latin America”, (“the Initiative”) will seek research proposals which underpin and foster action on climate resilient development at subnational level in Latin America. We are looking for ambitious and innovative proposals for applied research projects from single organizations or consortia to support planning and implementation of climate resilient development, working with relevant decision makers. The Initiative will target sub-national territories, with a focus on small and medium-sized cites that are experiencing rapid growth, exclusively in Latin America.

The Initiative will seek high quality proposals for research projects with a maximum duration of approximately 20 months (to be confirmed). The Initiative aims to: expand existing knowledge and theoretical understanding; generate tools for improved decision making; promote the engagement and active participation of decision-makers and other stakeholders to foster action; produce tailored knowledge products for target groups; and encourage mutual capacity building between partners. Proposals must meet high academic standards and provide a clear pathway for achieving public and private policy impact.

Details regarding the Terms of Reference for the Initiative and how to apply will be released in the second week of May 2016, when the research call is launched. This information will be made available on the CDKN, IDRC, FFLA websites, and to CDKN Newsletter recipients, among other channels. If you have not yet signed up to the CDKN Newsletter please do so on the sign up page of the CDKN website, in order to receive the alert.

The Terms of Reference will include full details of the research call, the application process, including themes and sub-themes, eligibility and evaluation criteria. Please be aware that we are unable to provide further details of the research call at this stage, but we will be happy to receive questions after the call is launched.
