OPPORTUNITY: Call for CDKN Regional Research Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean

The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) is an alliance of six private and not-for-profit organisations, launched in March 2010.  CDKN´s purpose is to support decision-makers in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean to design and deliver climate compatible development.  We do this by combining research, advisory services, knowledge management and capacity building processes in support of locally owned and managed policy processes.

CDKN commissions new policy-relevant applied research that responds directly to demands from developing country decision-makers.  In the process, CDKN aims to strengthen research capacity and build more effective national and international research networks.

We are seeking to contract a Regional Research Officer as part of the CDKN LAC team led by Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano. The Research Officer will design and implement a Latin America and Caribbean research strategy to guide the research programming of CDKN LAC in 2011-2012 and optimise integration of research with other CDKN outputs, while responding to regionally prioritised research needs and opportunities to enable evidenced based policy making on climate change and development.

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from individuals or organizations based in Latin America that are qualified and interested in tendering for this work. In brief, this includes:

•Manage CDKN research activities in the region, including programme level strategy development, planning, and reporting for Long-term, Short-term, and Innovation Fund Research.
•Manage the CDKN research projects in the region, including responsibility for procurement processes and documents, overseeing project delivery, quality assurance and ensuring efficient monitoring and evaluation.
•Build the external profile of the CDKN Research output in the region by identifying key regional research events for CDKN presence, representing the CDKN at relevant conferences and events, and engaging with high level climate change and development academics in the region.

This is a part time position over an initial period of one year, with possibilities of extension.

The work will be commissioned through a restricted tender process and funded by CDKN.
We hope to appoint the contractor by mid August 2011 and as such this will be a rapid tendering process.
