Energy [r]evolution: a sustainable India energy outlook

This report provides a practical pathway for India to secure its energy – particularly electricity – supply to achieve long-term economic growth, whilst providing access to modern electricity technology to 300 million households still without lighting in their homes and also remaining low on the carbon growth trajectory. The report expands on the research presented in the earlier 2010 edition, focusing on: the fossil fuel dilemma; energy security threat; climate change and renewable energy; and growth and development. The report makes a number of policy recommendations, including: India should have an aggregate target of at least 20 per cent renewable energy in the national grid by 2020; bottom-up energy/ electricity infrastructure and top-down financing should be enabled as the key principles for household/ rural electrification; and public investment in innovation should be increased by supporting research and development.
