Annual status report on nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs)
The development of nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) has increased significantly over the last few years and the flexibility of the mechanism is widely regarded as an opportunity to deliver benefits that go far beyond greenhouse gas emission reductions. Many developing countries are developing pilot NAMAs that deliver important insights into the challenges of, and opportunities for, NAMA development from a national perspective. This report captures a snapshot of NAMA development activities around the world and brings insights into the key topics of finance, capacity development and measurement, reporting and verification. The report evaluates how the NAMA mechanism has developed worldwide and draws attention to where progress is most needed. The report concludes that NAMAs have the potential to become a key instrument in driving mitigation actions in developing countries and progress is needed to deliver finance and strengthen the policy underpinnings of the framework.
