Strong leaders are essential in driving the climate compatible development (CCD) agenda. LEAD Africa made CCD and population the focus of their 2012 Fellowship Programme (LAFP). CDKN assisted the creation of transformational African leadership by supporting the Pan African Session of the 2012 LAFP.

The project objectives included

  • Buildinging transformational African leadership capacity through the LEAD Africa fellowship network
  • Contributing to the evidence base of CCD in Africa to inform national and local development planning
  • Increasing collaboration and networking on CCD amongst African leaders working across different disciplines and sectors.
  • Contributing to a lasting legacy for CDKN through sharing CDKN ‘stories of change’

The LEAD Pan Africa Session took place in Lilongwe, Malawi, from 12-15 November 2012. Approximately 100 lead associates and other stakeholders participated in training that ranged from CCD and population growth, to leadership and project management. Outputs included four country studies on CCD and population growth, a ‘Pan African’ synthesis of the lessons learned at the conference, and video material.
