Ethiopia has submitted an accreditation application as a National Implementing Entity to the GCF. In parallel all six Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) priority sectors - Agriculture, Forestry, Water & Energy, Industry, Transport and Urban Development- have prepared project proposals to be submitted for funding. All proposals outline key Climate Compatible Development (CCD) initiatives.

The CRGE Facility was established to attract and channel climate finance towards CCD implementation and is jointly managed by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation (MoFEC) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEFCC). The CRGE Facility is in the process of reviewing, appraising, standardising, streamlining and adding value to these proposals to further enhance their quality, before they are submitted to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Secretariat for funding. Ethiopia aims to be an early GCF project recipient.

MOFEC and DFID Ethiopia requested CDKN to support a high priority short-term piece of work to package and consolidate Ethiopia’s GCF programmatic proposals – one focusing on the industry, urban development and the energy nexus and the other on land use sectors (i.e. agriculture, water and forestry).

The main objective of this project was to strategically merge and synergise existing project proposals into actionable and meaningful programmes that would be implemented across selected sectors. The outcome of the project was the development of transformative programmes.

A team of in-country and international experts have assisted Ethiopia in this endeavour, funded by CDKN and DFID Ethiopia.
