Bangkok: Managing the regional risks of climate extremes and disasters – learning from the IPCC Special Report

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has spent the last two years preparing a Special Report entitled ‘Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters for Advancing Climate Change Adaptation’ (SREX). The Report’s Summary for Policy Makers was launched on the 18th November 2011, with the full report released in hard copy in March 2012.

The IPCC, the Overseas Development Institute, Norway’s Climate and Pollution Agency, Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network worked with local counterparts to support a programme of regional outreach events. These will took in cities around the world, beginning in April 2012.

The goal of the event series was to publicise the findings of the Special Report to policy maker, practitioner and private sector audiences. The events aimed to improve access to and use of the latest science and social science information on changing disaster risks to better anticipate climate-related disasters and build resilience.

This event in Bangkok, Thailand included speakers from the IPCC and invited guests from the South East Asian region.

The event programme is available here.
