A new website has been launched by the 'Loss and Damage in Vulnerable Countries Initiative' as a valuable resource for policy-makers and practitioners.

The website, www.loss-and-damage.net,  is the first dedicated site for news, resources and opinion on the issue of loss and damage associated with the adverse  impacts of climate change.

With locked in emissions, scientists warn of future impacts on society and nature that could exceed development thresholds of people and countries. The “Loss and Damage in Vulnerable Country Initiative” was set up to support Bangladesh and the Least Developed Countries in their voice to call for action of the international community.

CDKN is supporting the team involved – Germanwatch, UNU, MCII and ICCCAD – in the following:

  • Building an understanding of the scope and significance of loss and damage associated with the adverse impacts of climate change
  • Developing and co-creating an approach and vision for loss and damage among decision makers and relevant stakeholders
  • Assisting least developed countries (LDCs) and other vulnerable countries to develop a coherent approach to the loss and damage debate
  • Identifying and beginning to take the steps needed to support a paradigm shift on loss and damage in the coming years

The new website features all of the major outputs from the project including case studies from Africa, Asia and Oceania which illustrate the effects of climate change beyond adaptation. There are also articles and opinion pieces from experts and the team itself, and background information on those working on the issue.

Learn more from the team at COP18 in Doha, at a side-event on the ground realities of Loss and Damage in LDCs (26 Nov, 13:15-14:45, Room 4), a UNFCCC Media Workshop & Launch of case-studies on Loss and Damage (27 Nov, 10:30-11:30) and a Side event (MCII), on implementing climate risk insurance: Helping the vulnerable manage climate change losses (29 Nov, 18:30-20:00,BINGO room).
